Blue Jays activate slugger Edwin Encarnacion, send Gose to triple-A

CHICAGO – The Toronto Blue Jays have activated slugger Edwin Encarnacion from the 15-day disabled list and sent outfielder Anthony Gose to the minors.

Encarnacion, who missed more than a month with a strained right quadriceps muscle, just completed a rehab stint with the triple-A Buffalo Bisons. He hit a Grand Slam home run in his first game Tuesday night.

His return to the big club is welcome news after three straight losses to the Seattle Mariners. First baseman Adam Lind and third baseman Brett Lawrie of Langley, B.C., have also been on the DL, though Lind (fractured right foot) was activated earlier this week. Lawrie (straight left oblique) is out until at least September.

In 88 major league games this season, Encarnacion is batting .277 with 26 home runs and 70 RBIs.

Gose has posted a .234 average in 69 games with one home run and nine RBIs.

The Jays open a weekend series against the Chicago White Sox on Friday night.
