Union suspends Eurostar strike, citing progress in talks

LONDON – A British union says it is suspending a planned four-day strike by train managers on Eurostar services to hold more talks with management.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union walked out Friday at the cross-Channel train company in a dispute over shifts and work-life balance.

They planned a four-day strike followed by a second three-day walkout over a British holiday weekend starting Aug. 27.

But the union said Friday that progress had been made in talks and it was suspending the strike for more negotiations.

Eurostar said earlier that the strike was having only a minor effect on its schedule, with eight London-Paris and London-Brussels services cancelled over the four days.

Another union, the TSSA, also suspended strikes planned for this Sunday and Monday and Aug 28-29.
