Former linebacker Patterson returns to Winnipeg Blue Bombers as defensive-line coach

WINNIPEG – Darrell Patterson is back with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Bombers hired Patterson as their defensive line coach. Patterson played four seasons as a linebacker with Winnipeg (1984-87), winning a Grey Cup in his first season with the CFL club.

Patterson rejoins the Bombers after serving as an assistant coach/defensive analyst at Texas Christian University (2018-2020). Before that, Patterson served as a coach at Rice (2007-17).

Patterson played collegiately at TCU (1979-82). He’s a member of the school’s Hall of Fame and remains its all-time leader in tackles.

Patterson was selected in the sixth round, No. 151 overall, by the New York Giants in the 1983 NFL draft. He later spent time in the CFL with Winnipeg, Ottawa and Hamilton.
