Broadway version of ‘The Audience’ imports some prime ministers along with Helen Mirren

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Helen Mirren will be seeing some familiar faces when she brings “The Audience” to Broadway.

Producers of the play said Tuesday that Michael Elwyn will reprise his role as Anthony Eden, Richard McCabe will return as Harold Wilson and Rufus Wright has been again cast as David Cameron. Geoffrey Beevers will also reprise his role as the Queen’s snooty attendant. Mirren will be Queen Elizabeth II.

“The Audience” imagines the private weekly meetings between the monarch and Britain’s prime ministers — 12 in all — over her six-decade reign. It was a smash hit in London last year.

More cast members will be revealed later.

Previews start Feb. 17. It will run through June at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, directed by two-time Tony-winner Stephen Daldry.
