Drawings of the Downtown Marina Project were submitted to the City of Kelowna yesterday as the final phase of the project is set to begin.
Westcorp Properties Inc. director of development Gail Temple notes the buildings in the drawing illustrate the company's intention to design architecture with more upscale appeal than would typically be found in a marina because the area is the water "gateway" to the downtown core.
"We have created what we hope people will feel are beautiful little buildings," she says. "Their architecture will be interesting during the day, and during the evening, the buildings will not fade into the darkness, but rather, they will become elegant 'lanterns' on the waterfront."
Temple says the project is on track and expected to be complete this coming May.
"This is a very aggressive timeline and it is our hope and expectation that all of us will be enjoying this new amenity this summer," she says. "We hope this waterfront destination will be one all Kelowna will be proud of."
