Prince’s Canadian guitarist apologizes to Toronto fans who lined up

TORONTO – Prince’s Canadian guitarist has apologized to Toronto fans who waited in line for a rumoured secret show that never materialized.

Donna Grantis, from nearby Mississauga, posted a message on Twitter acknowledging the “confusion” that occurred Tuesday.

The rumour originated from a quickly deleted tweet issued from the account of Grantis’s band, 3rdEyeGirl: “4th day of November, we need a purple high: OTNOROT CALLING…”

Eventually word spread that Prince would be performing at the venerable Massey Hall and fans formed a queue in the morning.

Midway through the afternoon, Live Nation quashed the rumour and announced that no show would happen.

A statement from 3rdEyeGirl said the band’s technical crew was in Toronto preparing for possible future gigs but “there was never confirmation of a show.”

In apologizing, Grantis vowed there soon would be.

“Fellow Torontonians, thank you for your love and support today. I can’t wait to perform in our great city for you and I hope to make you proud,” wrote Grantis, who swapped solos with the Minneapolis pop legend during Saturday’s “SNL” broadcast.

“We promise to deliver an unforgettable experience when we rock Toronto.”
