TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Romarco Minerals Inc. (TSX:R). Miner. Up four cents, or 7.41 per cent, to 58 cents on 7.2 million shares.

Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Miner. Up six cents, or 1.51 per cent, to $4.03 on seven million shares.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Up six cents, or 3.55 per cent, to $1.75 on 6.9 million shares.

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Up 27 cents, or 11.89 per cent, to $2.54 on 5.5 million shares.

Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp. (TSX:PRE). Oil and gas. Down $1.50, or 9.09 per cent to $15 on 5.4 million shares.

Surge Energy Inc. (TSX:SGY). Oil and gas. Up 26 cents, or 4.42 per cent, to $6.14 on 4.9 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Air Canada (TSX:AC). Airline. Up 48 cents, or 5.39 per cent, to $9.38 on 3.8 million shares. The carrier posted adjusted profit of $457 million or $1.55 a share, 11 cents higher than forecasts as the airline benefited from higher revenue and cost-savings initiatives. Systemwide passenger revenue rose to $3.48 billion, up 9.4 per cent from the same time last year.

Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (TSX:CNQ). Oil and gas. Up $1.48, or 3.87 per cent, to $39.74 on 3.4 million shares. The company posted quarterly net income of $1.039 billion or 94 cents per share, compared with $1.168 billion, or $1.07 per share, a year ago. But adjusted for one-time items, earnings amounted to 89 cents per share, well ahead of the 75 cents per share analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters had expected.

Sun Life Financial Inc. (TSX: SLF). Insurance. Down 89 cents, or 2.2 per cent, to $39.64 on 1.7 million shares. The company said net operating income from continuing operations, which adjusts for certain factors, was $467 million or 76 cents per share, two cents ahead of estimates.

Telus Corp. (TSX:T) Communication services. Down 48 cents, or 1.16 per cent, to $40.89 on 1.3 million shares. The company reported that quarterly adjusted net income increased to $387 million or 64 cents per share, while revenue grew by 5.4 per cent to $3.03 billion. The adjusted profit was three cents per share above expectations of 61 cents per share while revenue was in line with estimates.
