Man gets 5 years in prison for selling counterfeit Nautilus, BowFlex, Fitness Quest equipment

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Federal prosecutors say a former international fugitive has been sentenced to five years in prison for selling millions of dollars worth of bogus BowFlex and other workout gear online.

U.S. Attorney Richard Hartunian says Thursday that 41-year-old Walis Osmond Turk, formerly of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was also ordered to make more than $8 million in restitution.

From 2003 through 2008, Turk imported counterfeit exercise equipment from China and sold it over the internet as Nautilus, BowFlex and Fitness Quest brands. He pleaded guilty last April to trafficking in counterfeit goods.

Turk surrendered to U.S. authorities in April after having been an international fugitive since his indictment in May 2009.
