Cirque du Soleil and Grupo Vidanta to open ‘immersive’ theme park in Mexico
NUEVO VALLARTA, Mexico – Cirque du Soleil plans to open an “immersive theme park experience” in Mexico.
The Montreal-based circus company says it’s partnered with resort developer Grupo Vidanta to construct and operate the first-of-its kind park in Nuevo Vallarta.
The park will feature a common storyline as well as performances by Cirque artists and an outdoor evening show for as many as 3,000 to 5,000 spectators.
It may also include water park and nature park elements.
In a statement, Cirque founder Guy Laliberte vows it will be “something unlike anything the world has seen before.”
Construction is expected to be complete in 2018.
Cirque and Grupo Vidanta have already developed JOYA, an intimate and immersive theatrical and culinary experience that premieres in Mexico’s Riviera Maya on Nov. 21.
