Michigan judicial board urges Ypsilanti judge be suspended 90 days for super-drunk driving

YPSILANTI, Mich. – A state disciplinary board says an Ypsilanti judge should be suspended for 90 days for towing a boat and a trailer at a public boat launch while being highly drunk.
The Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission made the recommendation Thursday for District Judge Kirk Tabbey. He’s agreed to accept the penalty.
It’s now up to the state Supreme Court to decide whether to accept the commission’s recommendation.
The complaint says police stopped Tabbey in Antrim County on Sept. 17 and found he had a blood alcohol level of 0.17 per cent. That’s more than twice the 0.08 per cent limit for drunken driving and is classified as super drunk under Michigan law.
Tabbey was fined Oct. 16 after pleading guilty to a reduced charge of drunken driving.
