Man accused of mischief after rock thrown through window at Penticton murder suspect’s ex-wife’s house

PENTICTON – A man accused of throwing a rock through the window of alleged murderer John Brittain’s ex-wife’s house made an appearance in Penticton court today.

Zachary Charles Steele is accused of mischief to property over $5,000 for allegedly throwing a rock through a window at Kathy Brittain’s house in Penticton on June 22, 2019, according to court documents. Steele was born in 1972 and has made several court appearances in connection to the incident.

The case was adjourned in Penticton court today, Aug. 7, until Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Kathy Brittain is the ex-wife of John Brittain who is accused of murdering four Penticton residents on April 15, 2019.

Brittain allegedly shot Rudi Winter outside a Heales Avenue duplex on the morning of April 15, following which Brittain allegedly drove across the city to Cornwall Drive where he shot and killed Susan and Barry Wonch and Darlene Knippleberg, all of whom were neighbours of his ex-wife.

Brittain has been detained at Okanagan Correctional Centre since the shootings.

Brittian and his ex-wife Kathy were recently the subjects of a non-communication order because she could potentially be called as a witness at his trial.
