Earthquakes beat Whitecaps 2-0 for first away win of season

VANCOUVER – Quincy Amarikwa and Simon Dawkins scored to help the San Jose Earthquakes beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 in Major League Soccer on Friday for its first away victory of the season.

Amarikwa opened the scoring in the 14th minute on a header, and Dawkins struck in the 60th with a left-footer to the far post.

Nicolas Mezquida scored in stoppage time for Vancouver.

San Jose improved to 31 points and leaped over Vancouver into seventh place in the Western Conference, one point behind sixth-placed Portland which currently sits in the final playoff position.

Vancouver has 30 points from 25 games.
