Grass fire west of Kamloops currently ‘being held’

KAMLOOPS — A grass fire that sparked west of Kamloops is currently being held according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.

Fire information officer Madison Smith says the Semlin fire — that ignited yesterday afternoon, Aug. 26, across from Juniper Beach 16 kilometres east of Cache Creek and south of Highway 1 — is not expected to spread further beyond the existing boundaries. 

“It’s still 40 hectares in size, we saw no growth overnight,” Smith says.

There are currently 22 wildfire firefighters on site today.

“Yesterday crews were successful with their strategy in limiting the fire to pre-existing boundaries which is the Thompson River and the railway,” Smith says. “(This) allowed (crews) to focus on priority areas of the fire.”
