KAMLOOPS – Firefighters are expected to work overnight on a blaze that ignited at a North Kamloops elementary school.
Kamloops Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Steve Robinson says firefighters will be on scene at Parkcrest Elementary School located at 2170 Parkcrest Ave. for the next eight to 10 hours as they work to put out the blaze.
The call came in just after 5 p.m. today, Sept. 5. Currently 24 firefighters are on site working to contain the fire.
Robinsin says the blaze hasn't spread to any nearby buildings.
One person was in the building when the fire broke out but they were not injured. In a tweet, the Kamloops-Thompson School district says everyone got out of the school safely.
Robinson says the City has offered the school district use of its facilities to help students get back to classes.
Everyone has gotten out of Parkcrest Elementary safely–Kamloops Fire Dept confirms. Parents and staff can expect a direct message from us very soon. Stay safe! Keep clear of the school and let the firefighters do their work.
