TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Southern Pacific Resource Corp. (TSX:STP). Oil and gas. Unchanged at one cent on 3.8 million shares.
Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Oil and gas. Down 49 cents, or 1.30 per cent, to $37.31 on 1.6 million shares.
Talisman Energy Inc. (TSX:TLM). Oil and gas. Down one cent, or 0.11 per cent, to $9.10 on 1.6 million shares.
Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Miner. Up 21 cents, or 1.78 per cent, to $12.02 on 1.5 million shares.
Mawson West Ltd. (TSX:MWE). Miner. Down one cent, or 15.38 per cent, to 5.5 cents on 1.5 million shares.
Canadian Oil Sands Ltd. (TSX:CNQ). Oil and gas. Down 26 cents, or 2.36 per cent, to $10.76 on 1.5 million shares.
Companies reporting major news:
Brookfield Asset Management Inc. (TSX:BAM.A). Real estate. Up 48 cents, or 0.83 per cent, to $58.22 on 134,547 shares. The company has hiked its offer for full ownership of Brookfield Residential Properties (TSX:BRP) by 5.4 per cent from its initial proposal. Brookfield Asset and its affiliates already own about 70 per cent of the North American land developer and homebuilder. Shares in Brookfield Residential rose $1.33, or 5.01 per cent, to $27.90 on 7,451 shares.
