Ottawa keen on joining provinces to buy drugs in bulk, health minister says

HALIFAX – Ottawa is willing to join with the provinces and territories in their plan to save millions of dollars by buying drugs in bulk.

Federal Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq said after meeting with her provincial counterparts in Halifax today that she discussed how Ottawa could possibly become involved in the drug purchasing plans.

The premiers announced in July they would work together to purchase drugs in bulk.

At the time, they said they were looking for ways to make the health care system more efficient and save money in the absence of federal leadership.

Aglukkaq says Ottawa’s participation is a signal that she’s willing to collaborate with her provincial counterparts.
