March 5 — U.S. retailer Target Corp. opens first of three pilot Canadian locations in Guelph, Fergus and Milton, Ont.
March 18 — Adds 17 Ontario locations
May — Launches 24 stores in Alberta, B.C. and Manitoba
May 16 — Announces exclusive collaboration with Beaver Canoe by Roots Canada
May 22 — Reports $86 million in sales for its first quarter.
September 17 — Opens three locations in Nova Scotia
October 23 — Opens stores in New Brunswick, P.E.I. and Newfoundland
October 30 — Executives admit Target’s Canadian launch was weaker than expected
December 19 — Target Corp. announces 40 million credit and debit card accounts may have been affected by a recent data breach at its U.S. stores
2014
January 10 — Revises estimates on the data breach, now says about 70 million customers may have been affected
January 23 — Target Corp. lays off 475 employees worldwide but none in Canada
May 5 — Target Corp. chairman, president and CEO Gregg Steinhafel resigns from the company amid fallout from the data breach
May 20 — Tony Fisher, president of Canadian operations, is replaced with 15-year company veteran, Mark Schindele
July 31 — Target Corp. taps former PepsiCo executive Brian Cornell to be the retailer’s new CEO
August 20 — Target Canada admits it opened too many stores in Canada too quickly
2015
January 15 — Target Corp. announces that it will be closing all 133 locations in Canada
