Mexico’s Colima volcano spews column of ash 4,000 metres into the air
MEXICO CITY – The Colima volcano in western Mexico spewed a column of ash up to 4,000 metres into the air on Wednesday.
Dramatic time lapse video captured by local media showed the moment when the volcano, known locally as the Fire Volcano, erupted, sending a large plume of ash and gases into the air.
Authorities from Jalisco state civil protection agency reported that some residues had reached the nearby communities of Huescalapa, Los Mazos, Atenquique and Vista Hermosa.
No evacuations have been reported.
The 3,820-metre volcano is 690 kilometres northwest of Mexico City, on the border of the states of Colima and Jalisco.
It is one of the most active and potentially destructive volcanoes in Mexico.
