Scotiabank Photography Award reveals short list for $50,000 honour
TORONTO – This year’s $50,000 Scotiabank Photography Award has revealed a short list of three names — two from Montreal and one from Toronto.
Rafael Goldchain of Toronto and Montrealers Angela Grauerholz and Isabelle Hayeur are finalists for the fifth annual honour.
Goldchain, who was born of Polish-Jewish heritage in Chile, is known for a series of self-portraits depicting himself as his ancestors.
German-born Grauerholz is co-founder of Artexte, an archive for Canadian art in Montreal.
And Hayeur, a Montreal native, is a digital image artist known for her large-sized photographic montages, videos and site-specific installations.
Founded by Edward Burtynsky and Jane Nokes, the award honours a mid-career artist.
This winner will be announced May 6.
