Shanda Hill made her way through the large crowd, hugging everyone as they welcomed her home.
Hill, a Vernon athlete, made international headlines at the end of October when she became the first Canadian to complete a Double Deca triathlon in León, Mexico.
Friends, family, and people who followed her journey welcome Hill at Vernon's Iron Heart Gym with applause and cake Sunday, Nov. 10.
Hill said she teared up every time she heard that she had such a support system back home in Canada.
“When I know that it’s something bigger than me, and maybe motivating one person and that I have a community backing me and people in Canada that care, that kept me going when I had some low points," Hill told iNFOnews.ca in October.
