Crash on TransCanada near Golden claims young woman’s life

GOLDEN – A 23-year-old woman was killed when she lost control of the SUV she was driving and was broadsided by a pickup truck.

The crash happened about 5 km west of Golden on the TransCanada at around 8 p.m. Friday.

A passenger in the pickup was rushed to Foothills Hospital in Calgary. There’s no word on how badly she was injured.

The highway was closed from about 4 hours.

Police aren’t saying why the driver lost control, but the snow over the last few days may have been a factor. An investigation into the cause of the crash continues.

“This is a very busy time of year on local highways and road conditions can change very quickly,” according to Const. A.J. Brunner with the Golden RCMP detachment. “Please give yourself extra time when making your travel plans and get everyone home safe.”

The RCMP will not be releasing the name or the hometown of the woman killed.
