Poetry: Language and FormJoin Kalamalka Press Writer-in-Residence Yvonne Blomer for a three-hour workshop on writing poetry with a focus on pushing language, playing with metaphor and using forms such as pantoums and sonnets.The class will involve a lot of writing, and reading as well as discussions on poetic devices, sample poems, how poetry works, language and sharing of written work.Bring pen and paper (or a laptop) and a favourite poem (not your own) as well as a small object from home.SaturdayOctober 26th10am-1pm$75.00 per studenthttps://www.caetani.org/2019/09/30/poetry-workshop-blomer/ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTORYvonne Blomer is a writer, mentor and teacher of poetry and memoir who served as Victoria, BC’s poet laureate from 2015-2018.In 2018 she also served as Writer in Residence at the Robert Bateman Centre creating an ekphrastic poetry chapbook in response to Bateman’s paintings titled Ravine, Mouse, a Bird’s Beak(Nose in Book Publishing, 2018).In 2017 Yvonne edited the anthology Refugium: Poems for the Pacific(Caitlin Press) with poets responding to their connection to the Pacific from the west coast of North America, and as far away as Japan and New Zealand.She is currently editing a second in a three-book series on water, titled Sweet Water: Poems for the Watersheds, due with Caitlin Press in 2020.Recent publications also include Sugar Ride: Cycling from Hanoi to Kuala Lumpurand As if a Raven (both with Palimpsest Press). www.yvonneblomer.com
