Mounties respond to ‘unnerving’ report of man carrying Samurai sword in Enderby

ENDERBY – Police arrested an Enderby man for possession of a weapon after a reported incident involving a Samurai sword last Friday. 

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says police responded to a report of a 39-year-old man yelling at a resident in a Baird Avenue apartment building in Enderby to come out and fight. 

Police arrived around 7 p.m. Jan. 9 but the man was no longer in sight. Mounties checked his residence—located within the same apartment complex—and found him with the sword, Molendyk says. He was arrested for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

“The Samurai sword was located as well and seized for safe keeping for a while,” Molendyk says.

Police say the man was intoxicated and spent the night sleeping it off in a cell. Because no victims have come forward, Molendyk says charges are unlikely. 

“It was a bit of an unnerving situation to go to a report of an individual waving a sword," Molendyk said.
