Feeling Into Motherhood: A Nervous System Approach to Maternal Mental and Emotional HealthMotherhood is full of joy and stress, love and frustration, laughter and sadness, trust and fear.
Like most moms I meet, you want to be the best version of yourself for your children. However, when you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by your survival emotions, behaving in ways you regret, you end up in the dungeon of shame.
As a mother of three grown children and a specialist in perinatal mental health, I know this place well. If I could wave a magic wand I would bless each mother with the gift of grace and compassion. Motherhood is hard work, period. Especially with today’s increasing stressors and uncertainty.
Many of us mothers have not learned how to feel our feelings; we were not taught this skill growing up. There are many reasons why feeling our feelings is met with resistance, resulting in what is often named as overwhelm or underwhelm. When we protect ourselves and buffer against the stressful or negative emotions, we also buffer ourselves from the elevated heart-centered ones too.
As mothers, learning how to effectively feel our feelings about motherhood is a key ingredient for good mental and emotional health.
During this 2.5 hour presentation the following will be discussed:
A nervous system approach to wellbeing
The difference between feelings, sensations and emotions
Your survival and thriving state of being
Mapping your unique system
Supporting secure attachment
