Bald eagles can be very majestic looking when flying through the skies with their wide wingspans and agile flight capabilities, and they are also feisty birds that bicker and fight with one another.

This winter nature enthusiasts in Kamloops and the Okanagan photographed bald eagles in action, fighting with one another over scraps of food with their talons out or sitting with their mates on branches bickering.

While they can appear to be solitary birds out in the wild, bald eagles are socially complex creatures, and this time of year, they tend to live in communal roosts for warmth and protection, and they display strong territorial behaviour particularly over nesting sites, according to Animal Behaviour Corner.

The eagles will fiercely protect their nests from any intruders, including other eagles attempting to colonize the area, and can be seen performing aerial displays that involve swooping down and lunging at their opponents with their beaks and talons extended.

The birds also have a unique hunting strategy where two or more birds work together to hunt and catch prey, and can also be seen fighting over food.

These photographs show how fierce and protective the birds can be when it comes to hunting and roosting.
