Penticton car theft suspect in custody after flight from police
A Penticton man has been arrested and charged after an alleged auto theft in Penticton in late March.
Officers from across the South Okanagan were involved in the pursuit of the man after police received notice of a vehicle stolen from Penticton on March 31, according to an RCMP media release.
The vehicle was seen being driven in the Oliver area.
Officers were unable to stop the vehicle due to safety concerns but police observed the stolen vehicle parked in an alleyway in Okanagan Falls the following day, April 1, around 8:30 a.m.
Plainclothes RCMP arrived on scene and positioned themselves strategically until the suspect was seen starting the vehicle and driving away around 9 a.m. Officers were able to stop the vehicle shortly after and arrested a suspect.
Seamus Kirby, 28, of Penticton has been charged with possession of stolen property, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police, RCMP say.
