Burnt-out car, trash removed from Silver Star Road in Vernon

They are an eye sore and not easy to get rid of, but thanks to some heavy equipment and volunteers, the road to SilverStar Mountain Resort is now free of an old burnt car and plenty of other junk.

On June 3, SilverStar Mountain Resort teamed-up with Bannister GM Vernon for help pulling out the old car abandoned off the side of Silver Star Road near the second switchback.

Heavy machinery moved it onto a flatbed truck and volunteers hauled garbage from the site.

"It was just brutal," Bannister GM Vernon marketing manager Sean McConkey told iNFOnews.ca.

McConkey said along with the vehicle, the crew pulled out a burnt-out TV, an elliptical trainer, pallets and lots of other junk.

"I couldn't believe it," McConkey said.

Hhe wasn't sure how long the car had been there, but it had definitely been quite a while. The VIN number had been destroyed in the fire so the owner couldn't be traced.

"There was not much left of the car," he said. "We were just glad to help out."

Ben Bulmer

After a decade of globetrotting, U.K. native Ben Bulmer ended up settling in Canada in 2009. Calling Vancouver home he headed back to school and studied journalism at Langara College. From there he headed to Ottawa before winding up in a small anglophone village in Quebec, where he worked for three years at a feisty English language newspaper. Ben is always on the hunt for a good story, an interesting tale and to dig up what really matters to the community.
