RCMP launch homicide investigation after man dies in car near Princeton

RCMP are investigating the death of a 41-year-old man near Princeton yesterday as a homicide.

Kyle Schmunk was in a brown 2002 Toyota Corolla just north of Princeton, July 21, when police received a report that he was in medical distress, according to an RCMP press release. Police don’t provide any details about what caused Schmunk’s medical distress.

BC Emergency Health Services paramedics attempted to save his life but he died of his injuries, RCMP said.

Members of the BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

“Investigators are looking for public assistance in determining Schmunk’s whereabouts on July 21, 2025,” Staff Sgt. Jason Smart said in the release.

“If you have any information regarding Schmunk, the brown, 2002 Toyota Corolla, dashcam footage or video surveillance from Highway 5A north of Princeton between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on July 21, 2025, please contact the RCMP.”
