Human remains found after Coldstream house fire
Firefighters found human remains inside a home that was severely damaged by a blaze in Coldstream yesterday afternoon.
Vernon North Okanagan RCMP were called to assist the Coldstream Fire Department with a structure fire on Kalview Drive around 2:30 p.m. on July 24, according to an RCMP press release.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames and found what are suspected to be human remains during an initial examination inside.
Someone living in the home is unaccounted for and police believe they were inside at the time of the fire and couldn’t escape.
Police are investigating with help from the BC Coroners Service.
“Given the conditions at the scene, confirming the potential remains and determining the circumstances surrounding the fire will take some time,” Const. Chris Terleski said in the release.
“We’re still very early in our investigation and right now our priority is to ensure the safety of those examining the site and preserving any potential evidence. The scene will be secured until a more detailed examination can take place.”
Police said it is going to provide an update when there is more information.
