A small wildfire in the Smith Creek area near West Kelowna today is being held, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
Information officer Taylor Wallace said the “low vigour surface fire” is currently smouldering.
There are two wildfire service crews and two helicopters working the fire along with West Kelowna Fire Department personnel.
There was also a fire in the Powers Creek area nearby, but it was quickly extinguished earlier today, Aug. 13, West Kelowna fire chief Jason Brolund said.
Both blazes are suspected to be human caused and are under investigation.
Kelowna is under a severe thunderstorm watch this afternoon and into the evening with a 40 per cent chance of showers. The wind is expected to pick up to 60 km/h.
