Interpretive sites open along Okanagan Rail Trail

Three interpretive sites have been installed on the Okanagan Rail Trail.

The construction for three interpretive sites along the trail was completed in October, according to a District of Lake Country press release.

Thanks to the donations from Edna, Stella and Harry Weatherill Foundation, the sites were selected to enhance the trail.

The sites are located in Kelowna at the kilometre 40 mark at Carney Pond, in Lake Country at the 23 kilometre mark at Ribbleworth Falls and in at the 3.7 kilometre mark at the north end of the trail.

Site preparations began in Spring 2019 with rough grading, installation of fencing and applications for required permits, the district said. Work on the interpretive sites finished in October 2020 with the installation of site furnishings.

Construction is also ongoing to build a new $220,000 washroom on the North Okanagan's section of trail. It's expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
