The Butterfly Run returns to Kelowna

Prepared to run for a good cause?

The third annual Kelowna Butterfly Run will kick off at Park on Saturday, Oct. 4. The community is encouraged to attend the memorial walk/run to raise awareness for the Butterfly Support Network’s mission—to provide support and community for those affected by infertility, pregnancy loss, and infant loss.

It’s estimated that 1 in 4 women will experience a miscarriage or pregnancy loss in their lives and 1 in 6 Canadians experience infertility. Despite the statistics which show how common these issues are, it’s often a solitary journey for those on the path to parenthood. That’s why the Butterfly Support Network is a non-profit dedicated to providing support, resources, and community for those experiencing such loss.

The annual Butterfly Run, which began in Vancouver in 2019, helps the organization raise funds so it can continue its mission, alongside hardworking volunteers who bring their vision to life.

For those joining the event, the day begins at 8 a.m. for race kit pickups at Kelowna City Park. The pre-race program begins an hour later, with land acknowledgements, personal stories, a word from the sponsors, and speeches from the committee. At 9:45 a.m., attendees will begin warm-ups for the actual race, which will begin at 10 a.m. with the 5k. The 3k begins shortly after, at 10:15 a.m.

Celebrations start as soon as all the runners are on the road, at 10:30 a.m. Expect live entertainment, food trucks, refreshments, a kids’ zone, and other vendors at City Park. This is where you’ll also find members of the iNFOnews team hosting a booth in support of the event.

Make sure to stop by and say hello as we collectively celebrate a good cause!
