Salmon Arm denturist reprimanded for working without registration
An unregistered Salmon Arm denturist has been reprimanded for practicing without authorization and breaching previous disciplinary actions.
According to a Sept. 12 BC College of Oral Health Professionals decision, Laura Shoemaker worked as a denturist when she didn’t hold a registration with the regulator.
The College said Shoemaker also breached two previous undertakings not to work as a denturist when not registered to do so.
The regulator calls the issue a “serious matter.”
Shoemaker signed a Directed Education Agreement admitting to her conduct.
The denturist wasn’t fined or ordered to pay and costs, but will have to complete a Medical Ethics and Professionalism Course within six months if she wants to become registered again.
According to the BC College of Oral Health Professionals, Shoemaker practiced out of the Laura Chrenek Denture Clinic on Lakeshore Drive in Salmon Arm.
College records show she was first registered with the regulator in 2020.
Precise details of what took place aren’t given in the notice, and there is no reason provided for why Shoemaker continued to work while unregistered and why she ignored two previous undertakings not to work without being registered.
The notice said the college initiated its investigation in July 2024, but there is no reason given for what spurred the investigation.
“The Inquiry Committee determined that the matter could be resolved through a Directed Education Agreement,” the notice said.
No other information is given in the notice.
