Stolen snowmobiles in Kamloops lead to smoke bombs and fentanyl

Kamloops RCMP officers started out looking for some stolen snowmobiles and ended up seizing smoke bombs, guns and drugs.

The owner of two stolen snowmobiles and a trailer told police where they might be, so officers went to the address in the 900-block of Columbia Street West at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30, according to a press release from police.

When police arrived two suspects fled and officers caught them after a short foot chase.

During the investigation officers found a truck that was reported stolen from Enderby along with three handguns, a sawed-off shotgun, a smoke grenade and smoke bomb, a cell phone jammer and hard body armour.

Police also found fentanyl, methamphetamine, cash and a variety of ammunition.

“The combination of the items seized from the recovered stolen vehicle posed a threat not only to the community but also responding officers,” Kamloops RCMP Supt. Jeff Pelley said in the release. “This seizure will have an impact and disrupt criminals here and other neighbouring jurisdictions.”

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information has been asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and cite file 2025-36336.
