Mavs guard Dante Exum needs 2nd knee surgery and will miss the 2025-26 season

[byline]

DALLAS (AP) — Dallas Mavericks guard Dante Exum will undergo season-ending surgery on his right knee after complications developed from an offseason procedure, the team said Thursday.

Exum will end up missing the entire season after re-signing as a free agent on a one-year deal. The Mavericks were planning on the 30-year-old helping fill the void in the backcourt as Kyrie Irving recovers from a knee injury sustained last season.

Injuries limited the 30-year-old Exum to 55 games in 2023-24 and just 20 games last season. Those were his first two seasons with the Mavericks after playing overseas in 2022 and ’23.

Exum was the fifth overall pick by Utah out of Australia in 2014. He played four-plus seasons with the Jazz, not counting the 2015-16 season he missed because of injuries. Exum was with Cleveland before going overseas.

Exum has career averages of 6.2 points and 2.3 assists.
