LAVAL — A 13-year-old girl died Thursday evening after she was struck by a school bus moments after she had exited the vehicle in Montreal’s northern suburb.
Erika Landry, a spokesperson for Laval police, says emergency vehicles were called to an intersection in the Ste-Rose district around 5:40 p.m.
She says the girl died on impact and police will interview the driver but do not suspect criminal intent.
A team within the Laval police that is specialized in offering psychological support to victims was dispatched to care for the teenager’s family.
Laval Mayor Stéphane Boyer responded shortly after the collision, saying he was deeply saddened by the death.
In a statement, Boyer says his thoughts are with the teenager’s family and with the other children on the bus who witnessed what happened.
