After seven successful seasons with Forge FC, David Choiniere is going home.

The 28-year-old winger joins Loic Kwemi and Sean Rea as the first signings announced by expansion FC Supra, the Canadian Premier League’s newest team.

Kwemi spent the 2024 season with the CPL’s Valour FC and helped CS LaSalle, his hometown club, win promotion to Ligue1 Quebec this year. Rea has CPL experience with Valour and Halifax.

“These signings represent exactly the type of high-level, Quebec-developed talent FC Supra wants to promote,” Supra president and co-founder Rocco Placentino said in a statement Wednesday. “David, Sean and Loic embody the ambition, creativity and competitive spirit that will define our club.

“Bringing in this calibre of homegrown players strengthens FC Supra’s identity and represents an important moment for the club and for soccer in our province.”

Taking a page from Spain’s Atletico Bilbao, whose squad only features players from the surrounding Basque Country, FC Supra plans an all-Quebec roster.

“I love it,” Choiniere said of Supra’s recruiting policy. “We’re really proud to be French-Canadian, Québécois, and creating a team full of Québécois, I think, is going to be amazing … We’re ready to make some noise in the league.”

“And when I got the news that a team was coming to Montreal in the CPL, it was a no-brainer for me. It was the perfect timing, perfect opportunity and I couldn’t ask for anything better.”

Added Kwemi: “This team represents the Quebec people so I’m really proud to be one of the first signings. And also to be able to represent my friends, my family, everyone from Quebec.”

Supra will plays its home games at Stade Boréale in Laval, Que.

The club’s leadership has extensive Quebec ties. Placentino previously served as sporting director of Ligue1 Quebec’s CS Saint-Laurent. Supra sporting director Mateo Cabanettes and head coach Nick Razzaghi also came from Saint-Laurent.

Former Canadian international Nick de Santis, who started his playing career with the Montreal Supra of the Canadian Soccer League and coached the Montreal Impact, has signed on as an executive adviser.

Choinière grew up in Saint-Alexandre, Que., and played his youth soccer in nearby Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. He started with the CF Montreal (then the Montreal Impact) academy in 2011, becoming the first player to successfully make the jump from the reserve side to the first team when he signed as a homegrown player in June 2016.

After a persistent ankle injury limited him to five MLS appearances, including one start, over three seasons (2016-18), he bet on himself by turning down a Montreal contract to join Forge in May 2019 ahead of the CPL’s inaugural season in search of playing time.

Choiniere, whose younger brother is Canadian international Mathieu Choiniere, made 191 appearances across all competitions with Forge, recording 31 goals and 27 assists. He helped Forge to four CPL championships (2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023).

He relished big stages, scoring in both the 2019 and ’22 CPL championship games.

Choiniere also scored Forge’s first-ever CONCACAF competition winner in 2019 (against Guatemala’s Antigua GFC in the now-defunct CONCACAF League) and became the first CPL player to score in the CONCACAF Champions Cup in 2022 (against Cruz Azul in a 3-1 loss at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium in 2022).

Born in Cameroon, Kwemi grew up in Quebec.

Kwemi, 28, played for Saint-Laurent before joining Valour FC. He was named Canada Soccer Futsal Player of the Year in 2024 although he has put the indoor game aside recently to focus on the outdoor game.

Rea, 23, signed with CF Montreal as a homegrown player in December 2020 and spent the next two seasons in loan with Valour, winning the CPL’s Best U-21 Canadian Player Award in 2022. He returned to Montreal in 2023 and went on to make his MLS debut.

The Montreal-born attacking midfielder played for Halifax in the CPL from August 2024 through the end of the 2025 season.

“It’s an incredible feeling to join FC Supra at the very beginning of its story,” said Rea. “I’m excited to represent Quebec and help build something meaningful for the soccer community here.”

All three represented Canada at youth level. Choiniere was also called into the Canadian senior camp by Octavio Zambrano in 2017.
