Community Christmas event is for everyone, brings people together in Vernon

A Christmas day dinner is again happening to bring people together to celebrate on Christmas Day.   Together for Christmas is back to give everyone a place to be on Christmas day. Schubert Centre, 3505 30th Avenue is the location for the 2025 Together for Christmas event. “The location last year at Schubert was wonderful, said organizer Sheila Monroe. So many more people were easily able to come and join us so it is wonderful to be able to use Schubert Centre again this year!”

They are preparing a plated dinner for 500 with turkey, ham, stuffing, and all the trimmings.  This is no small feat including 300 lbs of turkey, 18 hams, over 100 lbs of carrots, and 250 lbs of potatoes!   Oh, and don’t forget the delicious desserts baked and ready to go too!

The community really comes together to support this event with longstanding supporter Butcher Boys helping out every year.  This year, JD Farms and Maple Leaf Foods are helping with the turkey and hams, and Bellman Specialty Produce is donating carrots and Zelaney farms is donating potatoes while Starbucks is offering coffee to the event. Many community organizations have contributed to the event as prices have risen this past year.  Anyone who wishes to donate can etransfer to togetherforchristmasvernonbc@gmail.com

“Our main focus is that no one is alone for Christmas”, said organizing committee member, Sheila Monroe.   “This togetherness goal is also exemplified in our volunteers”, said Monroe, “as volunteers also receive the gift of being with others and making spirits bright on Christmas Day.”

The event involved a baking day December 13, set up and decorating on December 24 and a day of clean up after the event on December 27.  Volunteers are needed on Christmas day and also for the preparations and clean up days.  If you are interested in volunteering, please email togetherforchristmasvernonbc@gmail.com

Dinner is served at hosted tables with table games, music and possibly even a visit from Santa! Local musicians are stepping up to volunteer their time and talent with live entertainment.

Doors open at Schubert Centre at 3pm with dinner service continuing to 6pm.
