Canada’s Abigail Strate earns World Cup ski jumping bronze medal

ZAŌ — Canada’s Abigail Strate earned bronze in women’s ski jumping World Cup competition on Wednesday.

The Calgary native scored 222.3 points in the normal hill event for her fourth World Cup medal of the season (one gold, two silver, one bronze).

Her third previous medals were in large hill, which makes its debut at the Milan Cortina Games.

Austria’s Lisa Eder (227.9) and Slovakia’s Nika Prevc (226.5) placed ahead of Strate.

“I’m quite happy with today, especially the qualifying jump as I took some time off competition and then came back here, so I think my expectations were a little high yesterday,” said Strate, who finished ninth in Tuesday’s World Cup event.

“Then today I took it away, enjoyed the jumping and I’m now looking forward to the next one of the season.”

The 24-year-old Strate is set to make her second Olympic appearance in February in Italy.

She finished 23rd in the individual normal hill event and earned bronze in the mixed team event at the 2022 Games.
