iN NUMBERS: How British Columbians view other countries

It’s pretty easy to tell that people in BC don’t have the highest opinion of the United States these days, but what about the rest of the world?

Here’s a quick list of the province’s favourite and least favourite countries.

These are the numbers from a Research Co. survey:

  • 25: Per cent of British Columbians have a positive view of the U.S.
  • 9: Months ago Canadians’ opinion of the U.S. was at an all-time low, and is now four points higher than it was nearly a year ago.
  • 6: Per cent more men than women have a positive view of the U.S.
  • 88: Per cent of British Columbians have a positive view of Japan, making it the most popular country among people in BC.
  • 78: Per cent of British Columbians have a positive view of Italy, but that might improve if Canada wins a few more medals at the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina.
  • 12: Per cent of British Columbians have a positive view of North Korea, making it the least popular foreign country.
  • 16: Per cent of British Columbians have a positive view of Russia.
  • 31: Per cent of British Columbians have a positive view of China.
  • 44: Per cent of Canadians aged 18 to 34 have a positive view of China.
  • 33: Per cent of British Columbians have a favourable view of India.
