A local youth was caught by an off-duty RCMP officer red handed tagging a building in Lake Country more than a week ago.
The officer saw a youth spray painting a building early in the morning, Feb. 13, according to a media release from the District of Lake Country issued today, Feb. 23.
The officer saw the youth actively vandalizing the building and followed the teen when they took off, the release said. After a short foot chase the officer caught the suspect and took them into custody without incident.
The vandal was arrested for mischief and released to a parent with a court date.
Officers had several other reports of vandalism in the area and found numerous buildings with the same tag.
“This is an exceptionally disappointing incident in which a youth showed utter disregard for their community,” Cpl. Ryder Birtwistle said in the release.
“This type of vandalism has been increasing, and it is hoped that this arrest will help reduce the damage being caused.”
Anyone with information or video footage related to the graffiti has been asked to contact Lake Country RCMP at 250-766-2288.
