B.C. minimum wage set to rise again this spring

British Columbia’s minimum wage is going up again in June and the this latest increase will be more than a decade of annual increases.

The minimum wage is set to go up from $17.85 to $18.25 on June 1, according to a press release from the Ministry of Labour issued, Feb. 26.

“Working people in our province are feeling the pressure of inflation,” Labour minister Jennifer Whiteside said in the release. “That’s why we acted to bring in annual minimum-wage increases, which have helped paycheques keep up with increasing costs of essentials like food and transportation.”

In 2015, the minimum wage was $10.45 an hour and since then the province has increased it based on the previous year’s inflation. In 2025, B.C. had an average monthly inflation of more than 2.1 per cent.

The raise goes into effect on June 1 and applies to the general minimum wage and special minimum wages for resident caretakers, piece-rate agricultural workers and app-based employees like Uber drivers and DoorDash delivery drivers.

App-based ride-hailing and delivery service workers will get a minimum wage of $21.89 starting June 1.

Minimum piece rates for hand-harvested crops will go up by the same percentage on Dec. 31, 2026.

“This matters for everyone, and especially for minimum-wage workers, the people doing the jobs so many of us rely on every day,” Whiteside said.

B.C. has the highest minimum wage among provinces, but it’s behind the territories with Nunavut’s minimum wage at $19.75 an hour.
