PORT ALBERNI — Police on Vancouver Island say an 81-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after a shooting at a Port Alberni trailer park on Friday night.

Mounties say Port Alberni RCMP were called to the scene of a reported shooting around 9 p.m. on Friday.

Police say officers arrived to find three men, one of whom was suffering from a gunshot wound.

RCMP say the victim died at the scene and the Vancouver Island Major Crimes Unit is now investigating, and is “working” closely with local police.

A statement from B.C. RCMP says an 81-year-old Port Alberni man has now been charged with second-degree murder and remains in custody.

Police say they believe the shooting was an isolated incident between people who know each other, and Sgt. Jason Kerr with the major crimes unit says police “worked tirelessly” to investigate and bring charges in the case.
