Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream MLA Tara Armstrong is staring down a recall campaign set to launch next month, so here’s a quick recap of her work in the legislature.

Armstrong was elected as a BC Conservative in the 2024 election. She didn’t go to the public forum for her riding and said that she was knocking on doors instead.

Her next notable political move came in March 2025 when she left the BC Conservatives after fellow MLA Dallas Brodie was ousted for mocking residential school survivors.

Together Brodie and Armstrong created a new party, OneBC, in June last year. A move that gave them both pay raises as party leader and house leader.

Armstrong introduced a bill against gender affirming care for youth called “Protecting Minors from Gender Transition Act”. It was voted down at the first reading, which is unusual in the BC Legislative Assembly.

Armstrong then introduced a bill that would have made immigrants pay more for health care, which again failed at the first reading.

OneBC also wanted to ban land acknowledgements and repeal the effect of the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People, and introduced two bills to do so, both of which failed at the first reading.

Armstrong introduced a bill in December to create a statutory holiday to commemorate the Freedom Convoy protests in 2022, which did receive support at its first reading but still has a way to go before the public get another day off each year.

Shortly after, OneBC collapsed due to a fallout between Armstrong and Brodie over a staff member alleged to have spouted neo-Nazi ideology. Armstrong defended the staffer and ousted Brodie from the party, but Brodie managed to wrestle back control afterwards and kick Armstrong out.

Following the implosion of OneBC, Armstrong presented another bill targeting trans youth, which failed at the first reading.

Most recently she attempted to repeal the BC Human Rights Code, another bill that failed at the first reading.

The application for the recall Tara Armstrong petition is scheduled to be filed on April 20.
