iN NUMBERS: How British Columbians feel about Canada’s NHL teams

It’s that time of year, the NHL playoffs. Time to pick a bandwagon and jump on.

Whether you follow hockey religiously or don’t watch a single game, it’s time to say a quick prayer that the cup comes home to Canada.

Here are the numbers from an Angus Reid poll on British Columbians’ faith in Canada’s teams:

  • 37: Per cent of British Columbians polled said they’re NHL fans.
  • 35: Per cent of British Columbians polled said that a lot of interests come before hockey. Lame.
  • 53: Per cent of British Columbians polled said they watch hockey closely.
  • 0: The number of people should be surprised the Toronto Maple Leafs ended their playoff streak.
  • 42: Per cent of British Columbians polled are excited about the playoffs.
  • 33: Years. That’s how long it has been since a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup.
  • 34: Per cent of British Columbians polled said they think the Edmonton Oilers will be the ones to break the streak. If we get another final with the Florida Panthers and lose there’s gonna be a riot on Bernard Avenue.
  • 1: Per cent of British Columbians polled think the Calgary Flames will take the cup home for Canada. Angus Reid didn’t ask respondents if they had been drinking heavily before taking the survey.
  • 63: Per cent of British Columbians polled said their favourite team is the Vancouver Canucks, with 9 per cent going with the Oilers.
  • 10: Per cent of British Columbians said they don’t cheer for any specific Canadian team, which is honestly treasonous. Just go with whoever is geographically closest to where you grew up, come on.
