iN NUMBERS: The state of spectator sports in Kamloops, Okanagan

If you’re a hockey fan in Kamloops or the Okanagan there’s no shortage of teams to support. But if you’d rather watch any other sport, hop in the car for Vancouver or Calgary, or check out the amateur divisions.

Here are the numbers:

  • 3: WHL teams, Penticton Vees, Kelowna Rockets and Kamloops Blazers.
  • 3: BCHL teams, West Kelowna Warriors, Vernon Vipers and Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
  • 4,664: That’s how many tickets the Kelowna Rockets sold on average per game.
  • 3,765: That’s how many tickets the Kamloops Blazers sold on average per game.
  • 3,446: That’s how many tickets the Penticton Vees sold on average per game.
  • 730: Dollars. That’s the price for a full tournament package for the Memorial Cup in Kelowna.
  • 390: Kilometres from Kelowna to Vancouver to see a CFL game, except for this summer at Touchdown Kelowna.
  • 72: Per cent of British Columbians polled by Research Co. want a Major League Baseball team in Vancouver.
  • 2: New teams are debuting in the Canadian Premier League this year, and while Kelowna was on the shortlist it didn’t make the cut.
  • 57: Years. That’s how long ago the Kelowna Crows rugby team has been playing. The Crows recently beat Vancouver’s Rogues Rugby by 99 points, so if you’re looking for a Kelowna team that’s actually good then you might want to get into rugby.
