Rise net first NSL win with 2-1 decision over host Tides

HALIFAX — The Vancouver Rise are no longer winless.

Co-captain Quinn, a Canadian national team star, scored on a penalty in the 59th minute to give the visiting Rise a 2-1 Northern Super League victory over the Halifax Tides on Monday.

Vancouver’s Jessica De Filippo opened the scoring at Wanderers Grounds in the 37th minute, before Jordyn Rhodes tied the match in the 57th minute.

With the win the Rise’s record improves to one win and three losses, while the Tides slip to one win, two losses and a draw.

Despite being outshot 17-7 (3-3 on target), Vancouver held the edge in possession (51 per cent to 49) and had more touches and accurate passes.

The Tides had seven corners and only two offsides. The Rise had three corners, four offsides and two yellow cards.
