KAMLOOPS – Domtar is running a test of emergency response systems this morning, and while a company spokesperson says it likely will not be heard by many people they want to reassure everyone it is just a test.
“We do it periodically to test our emergency response systems to make sure they are all working,” Bonny Skene says. “We rarely get calls from community members when we do these. The alarms are intended to notify those on site.”
The drill will begin around 10 a.m. and will last about 90 minutes. The mill will continue to operate with a designated crew while all other employees will exit to muster stations on site.
Skene says they test the alarms quarterly but only do evacuation drills such as this one every 18-24 months. The company also notifies all stakeholders the day before drills are set to take place in case the public does call in any concerns.
