Montreal potholes: mayor asking citizens whether to pave or not to pave

MONTREAL – Montrealers are now facing the prospect of pothole-laden streets becoming an unwanted monument of corruption.

Allegations of corruption within construction companies have prompted city council to reject the idea of awarding contracts to fix potholes.

Mayor Michael Applebaum is now asking citizens to vote online to put pressure on council so the firms mentioned at the Charbonneau Commission can land the contracts.

Potholes are a running joke in Montreal, although many motorists don’t find too much to laugh about when they get a hard jolt upon hitting one.

Montrealers are being asked to vote Yes to the contracts, being fully aware of the circumstances, or to reject them.

Applebaum warns rejecting them means there would be no asphalt to fill potholes that start appearing on city streets after mid-April.
