Police charge mom after finding her and son with stab wounds in bathroom

SASKATOON – A mother in Saskatoon is charged with attempting to kill her six-year-old son after police say they found the two of them in a bathroom with stab wounds.

Police say they responded to the home Thursday evening when they got a 911 call about a child custody dispute where a father was attempting to pick up his six and 10-year-old boys.

While officers were trying to make contact with the mother inside, police say the 10-year-old opened the door and told them he needed help and that something was wrong inside.

Police say they immediately entered and found the mother and younger boy in the bathroom.

They say the child had a cut on his neck and stab wound in his abdomen, while the mother had cuts to her wrists and stab wounds to her abdomen.

Both were taken to hospital and are in stable condition.

The woman, 32, has been charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault.

She will remain in custody until Monday.
